The Hay Festival Segovia, is without a doubt, the most important cultural event that takes place in the province of Segovia. In September 2018 Juan Garaizabal recovered the memory of the Puerta de San Martín, incorporating it into the work developed around the world by Garaizabal in what the artist has defined as «Memorias Urbanas».
The Puerta de San Martín, was one of the five original gates of the Wall of the City of Segovia and main entrance to the historic enclosure until its demolition in 1883. The disappearance of this door – which was double because it had two completely different arches – was especially significant for the value and the historical significance that it housed, because in front of her, the City Council received the monarchs who visited Segovia and offered them on a silver tray the keys of the city.
With this project Garaizabal intended to recover with sculpture an architectural element whose energy remains in that exact place of this World Heritage city.
The piece was designed in 316L stainless steel of the highest quality and outdoor resistance, and elaborated in the artist’s workshop.
